Heritage Overview
Ted Lee has a mixed heritage: half Chinese-Canadian (paternal) and half French-Canadian (maternal). Within the maternal French-Canadian line, his grandmother Marie Rosalinda Paquet was identified by the family as being half French and half First Nations, described as Métisse. This makes Ted approximately 1/8 First Nations by descent.
The family oral history attributes the Indigenous ancestry to the “Six Nations from Eastern Canada.” Research suggests the ancestry may more accurately be Algonquin (Anishinaabe), based on documented connections to the Sarrazin surname in the Ottawa Valley. A Mohawk (Haudenosaunee) connection through the Châteauguay area also remains possible.
